Can you help my child?

I have coached hundreds of children to feel gorgeous from the inside out. Here are some of the reasons children come to coaching.

For a specific issue related to confidence such as:

  • Manage change like a new school or a new home
  • Prepare for exams or public speaking
  • Recognise their passions and strengths
  • Believe in themselves and all their strengths
  • Feel motivated and accomplished in life
  • Making decisions that are right for them
  • Learn from disappointments and mistakes

For a specific issue related to friendships such as:

  • starting and ending friendships
  • social skills
  • conflict resolution
  • bullying
  • assertiveness and setting boundaries
  • loneliness and isolation
  • choosing the right friends

For a specific issue related to worries and / or anxiety such as:

  • Sleepless nights
  • Being away from home (school residentials and sleep overs)
  • Intrusive or non-stop thinking
  • Fears or phobias
  • Night time wobbles – monsters, burglars, bad dreams, ghosts
  • Exam or homework stress
  • Family separation or divorce

For a specific issue related to emotional regulation and / or overwhlem:

  • Help your child understand big scary emotions like anger which frequently erupt into meltdowns
  • Help your child how to connect with their emotions and make sense of them
  • Increase your child’s self awareness and improve emotional wellbeing
  • Cope with stress and pressure of everyday life
  • Discover ways to self soothe or calm down in the eye of the storm

My Smiley Coaching room is in Weybridge, Surrey. My address is: Smiley HQ, No7 Investment House, 28 Queens Road, Weybridge, Surrey KT13 9UT.

The children instantly feel at home in the informal and relaxed setting. In fact some of them find it quite magical with its sensory fish tank, positive thought mirror, power animals and colourful wall art. On a practical level, there is parking nearby as well as a lovely high Street of shops and cafes so parents can have ‘Me Time’ while your child is in session.

If you have older children, please do not worry about the ‘child-like’ decor. This is intentional because it takes your child back to their smaller self and helps them to connect to what they need to for the session. Dare I say that most of the time it’s parents who are more worried about this than the children. A lot of teens think my room is totally ‘cool’ (thanks kids, I think so too) and some of them are so busy getting into the session, it goes totally over their head.

My role is to add to the life skills your friends and families have already given to your child – because sometimes we don’t always listen to the people we love when they are trying to help us. Some of the things I’ve helped children cope with are:-

  • perfectionism
  • decision making
  • friendship conflicts and bullying
  • feeling left out or different
  • romance
  • sibling rivalry
  • meeting new people
  • ‘butterfly brain’ (anxiety provoking thinking, over thinking and worrying)
  • facing fears and finding coping strategies for dealing with them
  • losing loved ones or coping with serious illness
  • handling stress or life changing events  e.g. changing schools, moving house, sitting exams,

I coach children from age 7 up to teenagers. There are 4 very good reasons for this:-

  1. My coaching techniques are fun and creative, however they are not suitable for little ones. Check out my creative coaching workshops, The Energy Pod or my Online Learning Den if your child is younger.
  2. For young children, I still think parents and other influential adult figures can still massively shape a child (self esteem is formed around 8). It’s nurture not nature.
  3. I don’t want little people to have to worry about that sort of stuff.
  4. Children are constantly changing (like the weather!) so allow them their developmental phases and watch your reaction to it. It’s the fear in you that will be wanting to ‘control’ any out of character behaviour. Fear is the opposite to love.

Face-2-Face sessions vary depending on which programme you have signed up for, but are usually 50 minutes with email follow up. Your child will be asked to do some activities and coaching exercises outside of sessions but these are fun and should not be like school homework. Usually it’s watching a YouTube video or listening to an audio. I might ask them to write a diary or draw a picture. This helps to maintain continuity between sessions.

  • I coach Wednesday, Thursdays and Fridays after school.
  • After school my appointment times are 3pm, 4pm, 5pm, 6pm and 7pm. Please allow time for rush hour traffic.
  • During the school holidays, there is some availability during the day – please ask!
  • To access my diary and see what is available click here.

Prices start from £90 for a Meet Smiley Session which is an introduction to coaching. Then coaching is sold in packages. Fees are payable upfront by Paypal, debit or credit card. Payment plans are available.

Smiley Coaching works and you can read all the wonderful feedback from other families I have helped over the years. Learning important life skills and growing emotional intelligence is vital for a happy and successful life. I’m often described as ‘the Lady who takes my worries away’ and I seem to have an instant knack of creating that all important trust rapport (connection) with children. They open up to me very easily. I make myself ever so slightly (age-appropriately) vulnerable too so that they can share.

If you are confident + believe in me, your child will too!

Parents often ask me: ‘How do I get my child to come?’ but really that’s more about their fears than their child’s. Read my Frequently Asked Questions for more guidance on this. Children are instantly at ease with me. They feel safe. I am friendly, kind and non-judgemental. I remind them of the boundaries for coaching (nothing leaves this room unless you are in danger or at risk). Some of them watch me on YouTube before they meet me so they know what to expect.

I do not coach children or teens with eating disorders.

Please note: I am not a Parent Coach, so whilst I will give you materials for you to work through, if this brings up something for you or you need help, I will signpost you to somebody who can help. My energy is best spent on helping your child and this is where I can do my best work.

I am not a go between for parent and child or a family mediator. I do not liaise with parents during the child’s coaching unless the child is at risk or in danger. I encourage the child to share their story and request that parents give their child the space to do what is right for them.

Coaching is fun and light hearted!

The clever thing is that coaching does have a big message and gives children life skills which last into adulthood. You can find out exactly what goes on in my coaching room in this blog You Think You Know What Coaching Is? Think Again

I want to help children recognise what they are good at and build on that. I want to help them find their passion in life and to get creative whenever they can. As we grow older, we tend to stifle that side of us. It’s an important part of who we are. Besides we are a long time grown-up, so having chance to play and be playful brings out the lightness in life.

Step 1: Book your Meet Smiley Session

This is a 50 minute session where we can identify where and how I can help your child. It’s important we are a good fit for each other and that I get to know you a bit better. You may be asked to complete a questionnaire or at least reflect on your answers beforehand. If your session is successful, we will also agree on a suitable coaching programme for your child. There are various types of coaching programmes which you can read about here. I will then email you a coaching agreement and confirm next steps.

 Step 2: Booking and Payment

You can book and pay online. You are able to see availability in my diary so you can find slots which work for you.

Please read terms of business and my Coaching FAQs beforehand which tell you how to explain coaching positively to your child. It is really important how you introduce them to it. They will follow your lead: so lots of confidence and enthusiasm.

If you are not sure which programme you want or if coaching can help, then you can book a Parents SOS Call and chat to me in more detail about your situation and what is possible. Sometimes in these calls, we identify if it’s coaching you need or something else. There is a wide range of learning packs for parents and children in my Online Learning Den and a weekly club for families who are serious about their emotional wellbeing.
